Lady Brion, also known as Brion Gill, is a dynamic community activist and spoken word poet with a rich background in creative arts and a strong commitment to social advocacy. Born and raised in Baltimore City, her early experiences, and influences from accomplished black women in her family shaped her perspective and fueled her passion for voicing important matters.

At the age of 15, Lady Brion showcased her creative work during her art teacher's personal exhibition, marking the beginning of her journey into the world of creative arts. During her undergraduate years at Howard University in Washington, DC, she focused on Swahili and discrimination issues in Africa, further deepening her understanding of social justice.

Lady Brion continued to hone her creative skills, earning an MFA in Creative Writing and Publishing from the University of Baltimore. This academic achievement led her to become a creative writing teacher at a local middle school, where she found inspiration in empowering the next generation.

In 2022, Lady Brion made the bold decision to pursue a full-time career as an artist. Combining her spoken word artistry with her background in Swahili, she began performing internationally, including in various African countries and New York. During this period, she shared her knowledge and advocacy focus by lecturing in over 150 colleges, particularly addressing issues relevant to women.

In her commitment to advancing the interests of Black people in Baltimore, Lady Brion joined A Beautiful Struggle as the Cultural Curator. This grassroots think-tank focuses on youth leadership, political advocacy, and autonomous intellectual innovation to shape public policy in the city.

Expanding her impact on the arts in Baltimore, Lady Brion serves as the Executive Director of the Black Arts District. This role involves supporting emerging artists and fostering community development along Baltimore's Pennsylvania Avenue corridor. Working with various levels of government and supported by private donations, Lady Brion's leadership is instrumental in the Black Arts District's efforts to establish a $16 million innovation center in the city.

Lady Brion's ambition, dedication, and collaboration with brilliant activists and organizers demonstrate her commitment to pushing for arts and culture policies that benefit the Baltimore City community. Her multifaceted approach, from grassroots activism to international performances, reflects a holistic and impactful engagement with social and cultural issues within black communities.
